Embracing your individuality in a world of diversity

It makes me sad to think, and to know, that many people seek a version of themselves that doesn’t exist. In fact, many people are drawn to a specific lifestyle or image they think they should project. We underestimate the societal pressure that dictates the way relationships should be lived, the way a child should be raised, what we should say or do, how we should dress and even how we should think.

I believe that this is one of the main source of suffering. We are never happy until we achieve a specific goal and until people perceive us a certain way, which never actually happens since it is a matter of perception. The problem is that we get so caught up in trying to figure out what everybody thinks that we forget to ask ourselves, well, what do we think. Critical thinking is going extinct folks, and that’s not a good thing.

Change always starts with ourselves. We need to regain confidence in ourselves, knowing that it doesn’t matter if we do not think or look or dress like everybody else. In fact, it is important that we don’t! We need to understand that being different and unique is what makes each one of us so important to this human puzzle in which we all fit, even though sometimes we just feel like this odd piece that can’t be placed anywhere.

So stop trying, just Be who you are and embrace every part of being you, with your flaws and your gifts. Loving yourself as you are may be the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but it will be well worth it. ”The hardest challenge is to be yourself in a world where everyone is trying to make you be somebody else” ~ Anonymous.
