Strange title, I agree! But finding comfort in the red light is exactly what I intend on sharing with you today.
Isn’t it frustrating when you need to get somewhere and you seem to hit all red lights? As you are driving there you are following this “under-the-speed-limit” driver, and once you do finally get there, there’s a major line-up. On top of it all, you’ll be late for your meeting at work or to pick-up the kids from day care, when all of a sudden it happens – SMASH!!!! Right in front of you, 2 or 3 cars ahead, huge accident… and if you had had your way, it would have been you and your car involved too.
But, finding comfort in the red light is not only about slowing down, it is also about becoming conscious of our surroundings, enjoying the process. What is there to enjoy being stuck at a red light you might ask? In my case, it means I can have a few extra sips of coffee or not get “there” until the amazing song playing on the radio is over. Oh! I also can find my pen to add items to my grocery list or simply look outside at the view.
So this is a gentle reminder that things (people and dogs too!) that slow you down may in fact be trying to help you enjoy the simplicity and the suttle moments of life.
“Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling.” ~ Margaret Lee Runbeck
Enjoy it! ;)
